Why There's No "Edit Comment" Button
Unlike Facebook, Instagram has never added the ability to edit a comment after it's posted. There's no three-dot "Edit" option on comments—only Reply, Like, and Delete. So every "how to edit" answer comes down to one real method: delete and repost.
The Workaround: Delete and Repost
Find the comment
Open the post and scroll to your comment.
Delete it
iPhone: swipe left on the comment → tap the trash icon. Android: tap and hold the comment → tap the trash icon at the top.
Repost the corrected comment
Type the fixed version in the comment box and post. Done—your "edit" is live.
Trade-off: deleting the original removes its likes and replies. If a comment has lots of engagement, weigh whether the correction is worth losing it—or just add a follow-up reply instead.
What You CAN Edit: Captions
Captions on your own posts are editable (this is what trips people up—captions yes, comments no):
- Open your post → tap the three dots (⋯).
- Tap Edit.
- Change the caption text, alt text, or tagged people → tap the checkmark/Done.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you edit a comment on Instagram?
No. Instagram has no edit button for comments. Delete the comment and repost a corrected version—that's the only way.
How do I fix a typo in an Instagram comment?
Delete it (swipe left on iPhone / tap and hold on Android → trash icon) and post it again with the typo fixed.
Can I edit an Instagram caption?
Yes—captions are editable. Open the post → three dots → Edit. Only captions, not comments.
Will I lose likes and replies if I delete and repost?
Yes. Deleting removes the comment's likes and any replies. If engagement matters, consider adding a corrective reply instead of deleting.
